Being ME * Self-Development Tarot Spread *

Posted in Divination | 10 comments

The quote below inspired the spread I created this morning for reflection and personal development. Desiderius Erasmus’s words spoken half a millennium ago made me ask “How do we become ready to be what we are?” There is no better tool for answering this question than the Tarot which holds the key to all aspects of self as well as to the soul alchemy process of becoming that which we truly are and freeing ourselves from self-imposed limitations.   Before laying the cards out according to the layout in the spread below, feel free to choose a significator for yourself. I would use my soul card, The Empress, but you may prefer one of the court cards.   1. How free is my soul? Place this card on top of your significator if you have chosen to work with one. 2. Mirror – An aspect of self mirrored back to me by others that is influencing my ability to be true to myself at this moment. 3. Self-talk – How my self-talk is affecting my ability to be true to myself. 4. Soul Alchemy – A healing aspect/influence that I can access right now to help me heal that which needs healing. 5. Shadow – What I am trying to hide from myself out of shame or fear. This could be something I project onto others, either in a negative or positive way. The latter is known as a ‘golden shadow’ which signifies fear of success. 6. Leave behind – Something I need to let go of in order to free myself. 7. Love this! – An aspect of Self that I need to embrace and nurture right now. Why Did I Have My Heart Broken Again?

Why Did I Have My Heart Broken Again?

One of the most common questions I get as a love and relationship Tarot reader after a break-up is “Why did this have to happen?” This is a question born from the pain of a heart that is tired of breaking. The question prompts me to look for a repetitive pattern with the client (there usually is), so I pull a card or two for the underlying reason. I also want to know if there is a karmic/higher reason for this particular relationship lesson (separate card). Then I look at the best way to move on and to heal the heart. Not everyone needs to grieve in a mountain cave for a year before they can have a happy healthy date with someone new! That said, there is no way around the pain… we all have to move through it. “What’s in store?” is the next thing someone who has their heart broken usually wants to know. The pain is often caused by the massive vacuum created by the other person taking their love away. Rather than looking to fill this vacuum with self-love (which is entirely possible and a very healthy approach), many people look for a quick fix and a replacement for the love they’ve lost. There is no judgment coming from me about the latter, by the way. There is some truth to the saying, “Sometimes you have to get under someone new to get over someone old.” Although perhaps not ideal, we live in a world with very few absolutes and with a huge need to compromise in order to just survive at times. The main problem with getting under someone new before we’re over someone old is that it can make things messier and draw out the healing process. I do not underestimate the emotional pain a break-up can cause. Nor do I scoff at a person’s need to know what might be the next step on the path to relationship happiness. Sometimes we just need a bit of good news to help us take that next wobbly step on a path strewn with break-up debris. Occasionally gazing at the bright star further along makes it easier to get on with the sweeping. So here’s my Post Break-Up Mini Spread. For a more in-depth reading, you might like to try the ‘Help, I’m Single Again Tarot Spread.’ 1. Underlying reason 2. Karmic/higher reason 3. Worst approach to healing/moving on 4. Best approach to healing/moving on 5. What’s next on the path to True Love 6. What’s next on the path to True Love (here I pull a card from the Romance Angels Oracle) Blessed be!...

A Deck Interview with the Mary-El Tarot

A Deck Interview with the Mary-El Tarot

Before re-publishing this post (originally found on tarotize.com) in August 2015, I added the image above to give you a better idea of what the cards are actually like and to be the ‘featured image.’ It is one of the luxuries you can afford when you go back over old posts… Why not, eh? Start of original post from 2012 —-> First of all, a thousand million apologies for the poor picture quality. The wonderful camera I have been using the past few months has gone AWOL and I’m back to using my little old digital camera which is very close to giving up the ghost.   The Mary-El Tarot  © 2012 by Mary White, Schiffer Publishing  Ltd However, this deck interview is not a way for me to show off a new deck (go HERE to view the stunning artwork). I’m doing this deck interview to connect with the spirit of the deck and to give the deck a voice… so without further ado… My Deck Interview with the Mary-El 1. Describe yourself in three words Full on emotional (10 of Cups)  2. How would your best friend describe you using only three words?  Honest, too honest (The Tower)  3. What gift do you bring?  I help you access the gate of your deepest desire to change your thoughts and open that gate. With my help, you will be able to not just open the gate but to transform the desire itself and level up emotionally and intellectually. (8 of Swords)  4. What do you expect in return? I expect you to hold the highest vision of yourself as a vessel for grace to be continuously filled, re-filled and overflowing. (8 of Disks)  5. How can you help me serve? I’m here to show you strength and determination that you didn’t even know you possessed. I’m here to show you that sometimes you have to howl to get the attention of the Universe. (7 of Wands) 6. Is there anything else you would like to tell me about yourself? I won’t let you forget. who. you. truly. are. To say that I’m blown away by this deck is an understatement. I have cried more than once today, looking through the cards and trying a couple of the spreads in the companion book. The Past Life reading I did with these cards was hugely helpful and relevant to a current situation. There is so much magick and power in the Mary-El that it warrants a life-time of study. It’s a deck to journey with and if you come to it with a heavy heart, you will be allowed to cry… You’ll feel seen and validated. I wouldn’t use this deck in readings for someone who is not looking for deep emotional transformation. And I’ll remember to bring a box of Kleenex! Some of you who read my interview with the Universal Fantasy (which...

Tarot Deck Interview with The Universal Fantasy Tarot

Tarot Deck Interview with The Universal Fantasy Tarot

The Universal Fantasy Tarot deck arrived through the post yesterday and I had a wonderful time sitting on a bench in the sun getting to know this deck yesterday afternoon. It was love at first sight so this interview will be biased but then I never claimed to be an objective reviewer of tarot decks. Some of the cards made me giggle with delight and every single card warranted a second glance. There is so much going on! Yes, you have been warned: This deck is not for you if you are the kind of person who prefers plain lines and decks that aren’t too ‘busy.’ Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to capture the rich detail or vibrant colours of this deck in the photo I took earlier for the actual deck interview (below). I was really drawn in by both the colours and the movement of the lines of these cards. This sense of movement is something the Universal Fantasy shares with the Mary-El which was the other deck that arrived yesterday.  They are both quite intense decks but the Universal Fantasy manages to be playful too and that is probably the reason I felt drawn to interview this deck first. Had I received this deck as a young child, I would have played with the images for hours on end, making up stories for each of the characters. Click HERE for a diagram of the deck interview spread. The Universal Fantasy Tarot © Lo Scarabeo. All rights reserved. 1. Describe yourself in three words Dreamer, passionate, seer (5 of Cups) 2. How would your best friend describe you using only three words Empathic, escapist, fun-loving (10 of Cups) 3. What gift do you bring? The ability to escape the bonds of logical and linear thinking, which does not always contain the answers you seek. (8 of Swords) 4. What do you expect in return? A willingness to leave the past behind and to stay true to your own soul path which is that of a creative intuitive. (XX Judgment) 5. How can you help me serve? I’ll help you detach from the musts, oughts and shoulds. I will liberate the child within and help you find the most outrageous ideas. (King of Swords) 6. Is there anything else you would like to tell me about yourself? Yeah… *laughs mischievously* You really couldn’t ask for a better companion for your Hermit year! (The Hermit) Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind! Click HERE to learn what your Tarot Year card is, Blessed be!...

Deck Interview Tarot Spread + Interview with the Modern Medieval Tarot

A while back, I created a deck interview spread which I have been using on the blog lately. I thought it about time to post a diagram of the spread itself for those of you who like to print spreads out. Positional meanings: 1. Describe yourself in three words 2. How would your best friend describe you using only three words 3. What gift do you bring? 4. What do you expect in return? 5. How can you help me serve? 6. Is there anything else you would like to tell me about yourself? And here is a sample interview with the Modern Medieval Tarot: 1. Describe yourself in three words MM: Three words… Loving, kind and gentle (Ace of Cups) 2. How would your best friend describe you using only three words MM: I suspect my closest friend would say:  ‘Hard task master’ (10 of Staves/Wands) Me: OK, I’m confused… How do those two go hand in hand and can they both be true? MM: Oh, they’re both true alright. Think about it; You have the Sun in Capricorn and the Moon in Pisces… If that is possible then so are my answers. Me: Actually, that makes perfect sense! 3. What gift do you bring? MM: The gift I bring is one of helping you to time things right and to not miss any valuable opportunities. I’ll encourage you to go for it all the way! (Wheel of Fortune) 4. What do you expect in return? MM: What I expect from you in return is to be brave. (Strength) Me: I’ll certainly try. I already feel that I can trust you to give me the insights I need to move forward even though we’ve only known each other for a couple of weeks. 5. How can you help me serve? MM: Good, good (Smiles at me with piercing eyes) The reason why you and I are such a perfect match is because I’m a valuable tool of transformation for where you are on your path of service. I give you straight answers. Without holding punches, I still allow you to retain hope and a connection with your guiding star. I can help you navigate the vast seas of emotions so that you don’t get pulled under. Nor will I allow you to stagnate. New perspectives and ‘aha’ moments will be gained with every reading. You will be asked to act on the information you receive. (8 of Cups) 6. Is there anything else you would like to tell me about yourself? MM: Yeah, I’m a bit like that vessel – keeping you safe until you reach land. (6 of Swords) Me: Excellent! I really enjoy working with you and look forward to it all! Sample cards from the Modern Medieval Tarot: Blessed be!...
