Happy to Be Alive

“It isn’t what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.” ~ Dale Carnegie The 9 of Cups is a card that most people love to see in a reading. It signals happiness, good company, great food, plenty of drink and happy times in the company of friends. The little things in life take on great importance and bring equally great joy. It is often considered a card of wish-fulfillment but can also indicate wishful thinking if next to cards like The Devil, the 7 of Cups, the 2 of Swords or the 8 of Swords. Mostly, it brings news of happy times though. This is ‘the cat that got the cream’ card in the deck. You usually feel jammy and smug about your good fortune when the 9 of Cups shows up. Emotionally, expansive Jupiter in watery and mutable Pisces signifies an urge to merge and become one with the other person. While this can be wonderful if the feelings are reciprocated, it can also highlight boundary issues – especially if this urge is taken advantage of by the object of one’s desire. “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough” ~ Oprah Winfrey At the other end of the spectrum, Jupiter in Pisces brings a strong tendency to overindulge. This impulse come from a fear of not getting/having enough. Alcoholism can sometimes be indicated when this card shows up, especially in the company of The Devil, the 7 of Cups and an ill-dignified or reversed Knight/King of Cups. Physically, all the Pisces cards in the Tarot deck highlight problems with the feet and the lymphatic system. Affirmation: “I am happy to be alive and content with what I have.” 9 of Cups Prayer Dear Mother-Father God (or whichever higher power you acknowledge), thank you for the many blessings in my life. Open my heart wide to the blessing of gratitude so that I may attract abundance from a place of deep contentment. So mote it be! (listen to prayer on Instagram) Correspondences for the 9 of Cups Zodiac Sign: Pisces Planet: Jupiter Archangel: Sandalphon (Angel of Pisces) and Sachiel (Ruler of Jupiter) Gemstone: Aqua aura, turquoise and mother of pearl Scent: Strawberries Deck used: Faerie Tarot   Blessed be!...

The Tarot 9’s in Love

The Tarot 9’s in Love

The number 9 relates to completion, fruition, integrity, idealism, the unseen realms, life review, wisdom, crystallisation, transition, the Third Eye, visionary leadership and protection. The Tarot 9’s are a bit like the 7’s in that they often indicate solitude rather than companionship. This is by virtue of resonating with the Major Arcana Hermit energies.  Energetically, there is a strong resonance with the Third Eye. 9 of Wands. Like the 4 of Pentacles, this is a card of boundaries. Often it indicates a need to draw new boundaries after betrayals and other harsh life lessons. Depending on the spirit with which these lessons are greeted, the person represented by this card can either choose to display sound boundaries or become jaded and cynical which then leads to isolation and an unwillingness to share oneself with others. To the relationship, the 9 of Wands can be a card of great passion if well-dignified. It can mean that you have learned to respect each other’s differences and that you have reached a level of immunity against petty arguments. You are able to see the other person’s true nature and intentions and simply have no need to sweat the small stuff any more. On the other hand, if ill-dignified, the 9 of Wands could mean that one or both of you are constantly walking on eggshells around the other.  There could be a tendency to take everything personally and lash out. Sexually, and of course going back to the upright or well-dignified card meaning, this can be a card of great passion and transcendence in the sexual experience. The kundalini life force is channelled to cause a third eye explosion during the climax. To a single person, this is not usually a card of hooking up with another person (depending a bit on surrounding cards of course) but could be seen more as an indication to take stock of the past and make sure that lessons are integrated without cynicism as a byproduct. If the lessons are integrated successfully, there is great strength and visionary ability with this card and it is not likely that the Seeker will settle for anything less than they deserve next time. 9 of Swords. A card of worry, anxiety and despair. This is what I like to call ‘the card of the looping mind.’  The mind starts to loop when we are unwilling or unable to face our own shadow and instead choose to blame others and outer circumstance for our problems. That’s not to say that outer circumstances never play a role in our lives – of course they do. However, the 9 of Swords type person often fails to take action because of indecision and self-doubt. Nothing is done about the situation as they feel completely disempowered to move on. This card is a bad sign for the relationship. One or both of you could...

Heart-Healing with the Angels and Tarot

Heart-Healing with the Angels and Tarot

This is a simple three card spread you can do if you need heart-healing after a divorce or break-up. It can also be used for any other types of grief and loss. Simply get your cards out, light a candle and invoke your guardian angel. It doesn’t matter if you know your angel by name – s/he will still hear your request. Your guardian angel, who knows you more intimately than any other being, will protect you and help you understand the healing messages you are receiving from the Tarot. Then politely ask the archangels Michael, Raphael and Chamuel to join you. Ask for divine guidance and healing for your heart. Relax by taking a few deep breaths and shuffle your deck. Pull three cards: 1. Archangel Michael – To help you see which cords to the past you need to cut or what you need to do to protect yourself from negativity. 2. Archangel Raphael – Shows you what you can do to heal your heart and harmonise conflicting energies/interests. 3. Archangel Chamuel – This card gives you clues about ways to lovingly care for and nurture yourself while your heart heals. Close the reading by giving thanks to the Everlasting and your angels. Sample Heart-Healing Tarot Reading with the Archangels The thing that really struck me about in this reading is how well the colours in each card correspond to the Archangels. The first card, the 9 of Cups, has a lot of Gold – a colour of happiness and abundance. This is fitting both for the joyful 9 of Cups and for Archangel Michael, whose colours are blue and gold. The message is that I need completely stop drinking alcohol. OK, so this may not be your bog standard translation of the 9 of Cups but remember we are looking for something to cut out, leave behind or let go of here… and the image does say more than a thousand words. The second card, the 3 of Pentacles, is full of healing green – the colour of archangel Raphael. I can use this colour to harmonise and balance all my chakras but in particular my heart chakra. The man’s coat is green which tells me that I can visualise myself wearing a green clock, covering all my chakras. The house in the background of the 3 of Pentacles is also green. This tells me that I can affect my levels of peace and harmony through creating a decluttered and stress-free home environment. Some green plants might be a good idea. I haven’t had potted plants for years. Maybe it’s time I got some… Oh, and look at those violins at the top of the card! It is definitely a nudge to keep some healing tunes playing throughout the day. The final card represents the wisdom of the archangel Chamuel and shows me how I can...
