7 Health Benefts and 7 Magickal Properties of the Sun

“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.” ― Nathaniel Hawthorne Just for today, let us focus only on the healing power of the sun. You are already aware of the health risks and the need for a high SPF sun screen… but the truth is, without the sun there would be no life, no joy and no warmth. The healing power of the sun has been known for millenia. There isn’t a single culture on the planet that has not worshipped the sun as either a God or Goddess at some point… Shamans of old knew of the power of the sun to heal the mind from depression. So let us celebrate and harness the power of the sun today! According to epidemiologist Robyn Lucas at Australian National University, analysis of lifespan versus disease shows that far more lives worldwide could be lost to diseases caused by lack of sunlight than to those caused by too much, and it is inappropriate to recommend total avoidance of sunlight. (quote from Wikipedia) Here are seven positive effects exposure to sunlight has on the health: * Improves psoriasis * Contributes to a robust circadian rhythm (better sleep) * Increased energy levels and libido * Safely increases levels of vitamin D (better bone health) * Boosts the immune system, cancer prevention * Reduces SADS (seasonal affective disorder) and  depression * Improves health in Alzheimer patients (less agitation) Esoterically, the Sun is a major player too. It corresponds to Archangel Michael, chief of Angels, and in the natal chart it represents the self/personality. In the Tarot, The Sun is a sign of success and victory. The numerological correspondence is 1 and the colour is gold. You can harness the occult power of the Sun by performing solar magick. This type of magick should ideally be done on a Sunday and during the hour of the Sun. There is an online planetary hour calculator you can use to find out when the hour of the Sun is on any given day. Here are seven types of spells that benefit from drawing on the power of the Sun: * Spells for greater vitality/improved health * Spells to increase your happiness levels * Confidence/courage spells * Freedom spells * Weather spells for sunny skies * Truth spells * Charisma spells Any spell you cast will always work best if you use your own words, unless you happen to find a spell that resonates perfectly. Use rhyme and chant the words of the spell three times or three times three. Strengthen the intent by lighting a candle in the corresponding colour. A spell candle for solar magick should be gold coloured and you can anoint it with cinnamon or frankincense to empower it further. You may also wish to mark the candle with a symbol for your wish. 5 Programs that Ruin Your Chances of Love

5 Programs that Ruin Your Chances of Love

It comes down to programming. Most of us have faulty software due to messed up input during our early years. Most of us do struggle with finding happiness in love… simply because we fail at finding happiness in life. As a tarot reader, I find that people often come to me with the expectation of bringing them good news – something that will make their lives happy again.  They expect Fate to fix what they themselves refuse to work on. Please understand that the old cliché “God helps those who help themselves” is more than just a cliché! Here are some of the faulty software programs you may have installed in your brain: Life is suffering. That’s got to be right… right? Even Buddha said that the essence of life is suffering. Wrong! Life is a precious gift and if you to choose to cherish it as such, your chances of attracting someone really great will improve by a thousand percent. Think about it… Who would you rather be with? Someone who knows how to enjoy life or someone who would rather be anywhere but right here, right now. Start feeling this truth: Life is an awesome adventure! Radiate this truth and people will be attracted to you. Simples. I am a victim of circumstances. Wrong! You are always free to choose your responses to any circumstances. The responses you choose form the foundation for the choices you will make that take you forward. If you see yourself as victim you will remain passive rather than taking responsibility for your own happiness. In relationships this means that you secretly resent the other person failing to make you happy. The truth is, no one can make you happy but you! Judging others (or myself) allows me a sense of self-righteousness that empowers me. Wrong! You empower no one by placing blame or judgment on others. However, once you let go of the need to judge another person completely, you will be free to live and let live and are able to use all your vital life force to create the life of your dreams. A judgmental attitude is a defense mechanism that is extremely effective at keeping your heart shut.  Not only does it prevent you from having loving relationships, it also creates dis-ease on the physical level. By not forgiving those who hurt me in the past, I show that I don’t condone wrong-doing. Wrong! Forgiveness isn’t about condoning wrong-doing, nor is it something you do for the other person. You forgive/release those who have wronged you so that you can free up your own energy. If you have a tendency to cling to past hurts inflicted by your partner (and even the most loving partner sometimes unwittingly hurts the one they love) you will never succeed at being happy in a relationship. Love hurts. This is one cliché that is not...

Being ME * Self-Development Tarot Spread *

Posted in Divination | 10 comments

The quote below inspired the spread I created this morning for reflection and personal development. Desiderius Erasmus’s words spoken half a millennium ago made me ask “How do we become ready to be what we are?” There is no better tool for answering this question than the Tarot which holds the key to all aspects of self as well as to the soul alchemy process of becoming that which we truly are and freeing ourselves from self-imposed limitations. Before laying the cards out according to the layout in the spread below, feel free to choose a significator for yourself. I would use my soul card, The Empress, but you may prefer one of the court cards.   1. How free is my soul? Place this card on top of your significator if you have chosen to work with one. 2. Mirror – An aspect of self mirrored back to me by others that is influencing my ability to be true to myself at this moment. 3. Self-talk – How my self-talk is affecting my ability to be true to myself. 4. Soul Alchemy – A healing aspect/influence that I can access right now to help me heal that which needs healing. 5. Shadow – What I am trying to hide from myself out of shame or fear. This could be something I project onto others, either in a negative or positive way. The latter is known as a ‘golden shadow’ which signifies fear of success. 6. Leave behind – Something I need to let go of in order to free myself. 7. Love this! – An aspect of Self that I need to embrace and nurture right now. Tarot Joyology

Tarot Joyology

Let’s suppose that all you ever wanted from life was to be happy… Could the tarot help with that? I believe it could. In fact, I know it could… How can I make such a claim? Because thanks to working with the tarot pretty much daily since 2004, I can testify that I’m a happier person today than I was back then… and hugely thanks to relying on the Tarot as my guide.  In my early 30’s, I began emerging from life-long depression and it wasn’t long after that the Tarot found me for the second time… and this time I was ready! Not only did I suffer abuse and abandonment (the cause of my depression) as a child but as an adult I also suffered some pretty traumatic experiences. There were many times when I prayed for it all just to end and if it weren’t for the fact that I have always had an awareness that you have to come back and complete karmic lessons, I might I have killed myself. Here is a wee list of troubles I suffered: Divorce, health problems, the loss of a baby due to T18 during the second trimester, betrayal of people I thought were friends, homelessness… But through it all I had a comeback in the form of 78 little friends that acted as sign-posts on the road back to happiness. The Tarot didn’t help me by telling me what lay ahead. I was wise enough to not use it to tell my own fortune because I knew that my own thoughts (which were at times quite negative) were the seeds of what lay ahead… Instead I used the Tarot to help mirror those thoughts, as well as underlying patterns which I did not have conscious awareness of, and advice me on how to best align with my Higher Self. This is how the Tarot became a path of healing on the path to true joy. This is not the same place I used to call happiness – those fleeting moments that acted as temporary pain relief. This is a permanent place. And it’s mine, not to hog but to share… and my way of sharing it is teaching the tarot, guiding others how to read the signs on the road to joy for themselves. It will take time and a lot of work. There are no shortcuts but the work is so so worth it! Holistic Tarot Tip for Cultivating Joy: Beginning tomorrow, pull a card a day for daily spiritual food/focus asking ‘How can I increase my joy today?’ Do this for two full lunar cycles (months) until it becomes habit for you to focus on joy and second nature to release any blocks to joy. The daily card will either show you something you can do more of in order to be more joyful or it will show you something you can do less of...
