Being ME * Self-Development Tarot Spread *

being me tarot spread

The quote below inspired the spread I created this morning for reflection and personal development. Desiderius Erasmus’s words spoken half a millennium ago made me ask “How do we become ready to be what we are?” There is no better tool for answering this question than the Tarot which holds the key to all aspects of self as well as to the soul alchemy process of becoming that which we truly are and freeing ourselves from self-imposed limitations.

Before laying the cards out according to the layout in the spread below, feel free to choose a significator for yourself. I would use my soul card, The Empress, but you may prefer to go with the Court Card corresponding with your Sun Sign.

The Being Me Tarot Spread Layout

being me tarot spread for self-development

1. How free is my soul? Place this card on top of your significator if you have chosen to work with one.
2. Mirror – An aspect of self mirrored back to me by others that is influencing my ability to be true to myself at this moment.
3. Self-talk – How my self-talk is affecting my ability to be true to myself.
4. Soul Alchemy – A healing aspect/influence that I can access right now to help me heal that which needs healing.
5. Shadow – What I am trying to hide from myself out of shame or fear. This could be something I project onto others, either in a negative or positive way. The latter is known as a ‘golden shadow’ which signifies fear of success.
6. Leave behind – Something I need to let go of in order to free myself.
7. Love this! – An aspect of Self that I need to embrace and nurture right now.

“Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you truly love.”

  1. Hello! I also did this spread, and I need to comment — it was incredible, a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!! One thing that I noticed was that this situation the cards were talking about seemed to be about a specific situation of my life that's holding me back, and I hadn't asked for this specific insight, I asked for general 😉
My cards seemed pretty bad! lol So, I got 1. 5 of Cups, 2. 5 of Pentacles, 3. 8 of Cups, 4. 4 of Pentacles, 5. 8 of Swords, 6. 9 of Cups, 7. High Priestess. So, it seems like I keep crying over spilled milk but can't see what is still around me, the mirror is mostly about loneliness and/or being left alone, I am probably self-talking myself into leaving behind what I truly am, soul alchemy would be being a little more self-centered, being more selfish and holding on tight to my own personal power, the shadow is probably the fact I am in denial that there is nothing I can do to fix this particular situation, I can't move and I can't see, what I should leave behind are my wishes regarding this situation and what I should embrace is my own intuition.
So, it was that 9 of Cups there that was pretty much the realization that this was a specific situation… so I drew two cards to see and I asked if this was about my whole life in general or this relationship… Empress + 10 of Pentacles. Guess I had my answer. Phew! It was good to write everything down! lol.
Thank you so much for the spread!!!

  2. I did this spread and chose the high priestess as a significator. Then I drew my first card. The Hierophant. Was fascinating! However, I am needing to hear another perspective on this pair in regards to this spread. Any response would be appreciated.

  3. The Seven of Cups is a little bit tricky for me — to me, it signifies choices. I try to point out the choices and options in other peoples' lives (in an unbiased sort of way), while everyone else seems to say, "You have choices, but mine's the best so you should go with that." All the noise is really getting in the way of being true to myself — I keep forgetting to listen to what I truly want for the sake of keeping everyone else happy.

  4. Hahaha! Geeking out over Tarot is something I too mostly get to do online, especially during the summer holidays since there are no weekly Tarot study group meetings.

That's a lovely reading you did for yourself, Bethany – glad it resonates and makes sense to you! 🙂

How do you interpret the 7 of Cups in the Mirror position?

    Blessings,

    Lisa

  5. I wanted to share my reading with you, since I have no one to geek out over tarot readings with. I used the Mystic Faerie Tarot deck, and chose the Queen of Cups as my significator. For #1, I drew the Queen of Pentacles. My mirror is the Seven of Cups, while my self-talk is represented by the Seven of Wands. My soul alchemy needs the King of Cups. My shadow is the Knave of Pentacles. I need to leave behind the Three of Swords, and embrace The World. I love how the two Pentacle and two Cups court cards are present and playing off of each other; and how the seven of cups is opposite the seven of wands! I've been through a lot, lately, so the Three of Swords really resonates with me. The World reminds me to embrace the opportunities at my feet. 🙂
