“Should I Stay or Should I Go?” Tarot and Dowsing

should i stay or should i go tarot technique with pendulum dowsing

I sometimes get people asking for a reading if the person they are with is any good for them. The question is often formulated as ‘Should I stay or should I go?’ The reason for asking this question in the first place is obviously that they will have noticed one or more red flags, signs of disrespect etc, so in 99% of all these situations, I would say chances are they are not good for you. This is your gut telling you to get out and you would do well to listen.

However, there can be many different backstories when people come to me with a question along the ‘Should I stay or should I go?’ question. Sometimes you know the other person is not a bad person but together you have created a rift that you don’t know how to repair or if it ever can be repaired.

Should I Stay or Should I Go Divination Technique with Pendulum and Tarot Cards

That’s when you may want a reading on the situation. This is one of the most difficult things to read on for yourself (due to the emotional attachment to the outcome) and that is why I recommend using the Tarot cards together with a pendulum and sealed envelopes for ‘blind dowsing.’

Method for Reading on ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go?’

STEP 1

Write the words ‘Stay’ and ‘Go’ on two separate pieces of paper. Stick the ‘Stay’ and ‘Go’ pieces of paper in separate envelopes. Seal the envelopes and mix them until you don’t know which note is in which envelope.

STEP 2

Place the envelopes before you and dowse over them with your pendulum (a ring on a string will do nicely), asking Spirit to show you ‘yes’ for the option that would be for your highest good and ‘no’ for the other option. If this is your first time dowsing, you will need to ask the pendulum to show you ‘yes’ and ‘no’ respectively first. I get vertical movement for ‘yes’ and horizontal movement of the pendulum for ‘no,’ but some get clockwise and anticlockwise motion from their pendulums so you’ll need to be clear on what’s what with that before proceeding.

STEP 3

Remember which of the envelopes Spirit guided you to go with, place a few cards (as many as you feel drawn to pull) on top of each. Feel free to combine the Tarot cards with an oracle as I did in the image below. You are now effectively ‘reading blind’ as well. These cards show you what to expect next should you choose to go with that particular option. Try to guess if they apply to a ‘stay’ or ‘go’ scenario. This will flex your ‘intuition muscle’ as well.

STEP 4

Open the envelopes and note if you feel pleased or upset. Was this confirmation of what your gut was already telling you? If it was, your reading has been a success. In the case of this sample reading, the affirmative from Spirit came over the ‘Stay’ but as you can tell, the cards still indicate that there are more problems ahead to resolve before you can expect smooth sailing.

With confirmation in the form of the ‘True Love’ card from the Romance Angels, your efforts should be richly rewarded. I look at the combination of the 7 of Cups, Queen of Pentacles and 10 of Swords as facing fears and uncertainties in a practical and nurturing manner.

I hope you enjoy playing with this technique and that it takes the doubt out of the equation for you. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!

  1. I can’t trust a pendulum any more than I can cards, when I self read, if I’m anxious about the outcome. When I’m relaxed, it’s no problem. So, now I need to figure out how to choose an envelope without a pendulum…

  2. Lisa, I realize it was a few years back, but what is that beautiful pendulum made of? And that is such a gorgeous reading cloth/scarf/fabric! Where did you get it?

    Nice technique here, thanks!

Thanks Miss, glad you liked it. The pendulum is aqua aura. It is a silk chakra scarf that I found doing an online search many years ago – sadly can’t remember the vendor’s name. It is amazing though… still have it!

  3. Pendulums & tarot go together like PB&J! Thank you for writing about this! Its also great for choosing which deck to read from if ever second guessing. I volunteered myself as guinea pig in an experiment with pendulums and a spirit board. I was thinking of making a post series about what happened/my conclusion, as I find so many people are burning with curiosity on the subject but are fearful of the stigma attached. I’m almost ready to launch the blog after switching obsessive compulsively back & forth between WP and blogger… I value your opinion on this as your blogs are amongst my favorites but do you recommend waiting to do that series after my blog situates and grows in readers or do you think it would be best to begin with a post series I feel very confident in?

  5. Hi Lisa …. What about queen …. Does that tell another women ??? N high priestess does it mean something is hidden …. ?????

  6. Hi lisa, I have a question regarding the king of pentacles, is this card always a bad sign in relantionship readings or just in this case because it was next to the 7 of swords and the moon? and what cards would be ideal to have next to the king that can tell if this king is a good love match?

thanks for sharing this divination method!!! ;D

  7. Lovely combination Lisa. What would you suggest if the pendulum gives you the same reading for both envelopes? Would you still go ahead and draw the cards for each envelope? Thanks for sharing this. 🙂
