If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

Hebrews 12:8

Being Apostate

In a tweet from last night, a desperate father called out for prayer for his apostate son. I told him to hang in there because I was apostate for 20 years and the Lord never gave up on me. During my time away from the Lord, I was like a fish out of water. Everything I tried to replace gospel truth with left me starving and gasping for the breath of the Holy Spirit. That’s how everyone who has once trusted in the Lord will feel when they stray like the prodigal son. We can distract ourselves but sooner or later, the Truth will catch up with us.

Only last year, the demonic realm tried to curse me further into isolation from God by the demon-possessed man I talked about in this post. This backfired and is just further proof that lies can never outwit the Truth. If anything, being cursed by a demon was one of the things that made me realise that I was on a very dangerous path, one that was leading me further and further away from God. Granted it took over a year for the penny to drop but when it did, it dropped good and proper. I returned to the Lord without reservation, gladly giving up everything I had cherished for the past 20 years, getting rid of every last occultic item from my home.

Blinded by Love and Light

My journey into the occult started with attempts at trying to understand the gift of healing, outside the paradigm of redemption and grace. I studied both Reiki and ‘Spiritual Healing’ in-depth, along with some other energy healing modalities. It’s quite hilarious in a way, because in 20 years of trying to decipher ‘healing energy’ I got absolutely nowhere until I conceded defeat and admitted that energy healing is the devil’s counterfeit to the gift of the Spirit. True power was nowhere to be seen in these counterfeits, whereas with the Holy Spirit, I had witnessed true healing miracles.

So how come it took me so long to realise how misguided I was? The devil isn’t known as the father of lies for nothing. His best trick was to make us believe he doesn’t exist. He has spent the past two millennia coming up with ways to make Christians doubt the truth of the Gospel. The earliest counterfeits to Gospel truth are found in the gnostic gospels which New Age teachers will be quick to point out are the TRUE teachings of Jesus Christ. Except they’re not. They are based on Satan’s original lie to Adam and Eve in the garden that they would be as gods. This is how the authors of the New Age blind us with ‘love and light.’

New Age, Gnostic, and other occult teachings would have you believe that you are divine and pure light; sin is an illusion, and all you have to do to ‘ascend’ is open up to higher levels of consciousness. The concept of grace is made null and void since there is no such thing as sin; everything is love and light once you transcend the point of duality. There is one slight problem with that: we can’t transcend duality. If you have met a single human being who has succeeded in transcending duality, let me know! The Bible teaches us that this is impossible, and this is also why grace is so vital for redemption from our sinful nature.

Saved by Grace

In all my years of adopting occult, Gnostic, and New Age teachings, trying to view myself as something other than a sinner, I only became more and more deluded. That’s the problem: if you really want to believe that you are not a sinner, you do have to buy into many layers of deception and delusion to avoid confronting your own sinful nature. This leads to incredible amounts of pride and arrogance, as well as sheer stupidity. In the beautiful letter to the Romans by Paul, we find the following succinct yet incredibly troubling statement:

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

…which is followed by the SOLUTION…

...being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith, in His blood, for a demonstration of His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins previously committed, to prove His righteousness at this present time so that He might be just and be the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus. (Romans 3:24-26)

The New Testament book of Romans lays out beautifully how we are saved by faith and faith alone. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves. However, when we do accept God’s grace through Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit starts working on us. Our sanctification, though it depends on our cooperation, is also a work of grace. No man can boast of their holiness.

May he make your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. Amen.

1 Thessalonians 3:13

If Heaven and Angels are Real, then So are Hell and Demons

One of the things I really struggled with as a Christian, was the idea of so many people going to hell. I had been obsessed with thoughts death and dying since I was a very young child, and I couldn’t bear the thought of anybody suffering the punishment of hell through all eternity. Satan is very quick to pounce on doubts of this nature and to feed us substitute theology which allows for hyper-grace. The problem with hyper-grace is, of course, that it does not allow for free will.

The fallen angels knew God in all his glory, yet chose to follow Lucifer in his rebellion against God. Is it then so strange to think that humans will and can make the same free-will choice? God gave us free will because he loves us and he wants nothing more than our love in return. Without free will, love simply wouldn’t be an option.

So here we are then, free to choose to love our heavenly Father in return and to accept his gift of grace through Jesus Christ our Saviour, or to reject Him. Once you accept the gift of grace and become one of His lambs, you will recognise His voice wherever you go and you will long to return to the Good Sheperd. Your mind and heart are easily deceived though and the enemy will do everything he can to keep you trapped in lies, so that you cannot be an effective witness of God’s grace.

The Armor of God

Salvation itself does not protect us from temptation because we live in a world that is under Satan’s dominion. That is why we are urged to clothe ourselves in the whole armor of God.

Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your waist girded with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, having your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace, and above all, taking the shield of faith, with which you will be able to extinguish all the fiery arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:13-17

A Loving Father

I opened this post with the verse from Hebrews because it is true. God never stopped chastising me and for that, I am eternally grateful. During the past 20 years, things would happen that nearly tore me apart mentally and emotionally. Try as I might, I could not reconcile the cognitive dissonance that appeared whenever I tried to deny Holy Spirit truth about our spiritual reality.

If you are reading this and you are currently apostate, this is a sign that you’re being called back home. If you are reading this and you know somebody who is apostate, please know that our loving Father is calling them home too. There is a mass gathering of prodigals happening right now, so please forward this post to as many people you feel might benefit from it. There’s no need to be like a fish out of water or a lost sheep anymore, repent and run back into the Father’s arms!

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside still waters.
    He restores my soul;
He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
    for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

In Him
