7 of Swords Angelic Tarot Card Meanings Keywords and Correspondences

Because of the traditional Waite Smith imagery, the 7 of Swords is a card that many associate with thievery and deception. However, like all 78 Keys, this Tarot card has both positive and negative meanings. Before we dive deep into the energies of the 7 of Swords, let’s take a look at some of the common tarot card meanings.

Negative Meanings

  1. Deception: The 7 of Swords very often suggests dishonesty, trickery, or betrayal. Be cautious of those around you.
  2. Theft: This card can represent stolen ideas (plagiarism), possessions, or even personal information. Guard against theft or unethical behaviour. In love relationships, the thief is the ‘Taker’ (see the post titled ‘Givers, Takers & Matchers in Love.’
  3. Sneakiness: It implies covert actions or hidden agendas. Be mindful of ulterior motives in your interactions.
  4. Avoidance: The 7 of Swords indicates a tendency to run away from problems or responsibility. Face challenges head-on instead. It can also signify avoidance in the form of aloofness or emotional distance.
  5. Lack of Integrity: This card warns against compromising your values or ethics. Refrain from taking shortcuts or compromising your morals.

Positive Meanings

  1. Strategic Planning: The 7 of Swords can indicate the need for careful strategy and planning. Analyse situations and act thoughtfully.
  2. Quick Thinking: It suggests the ability to respond swiftly and adapt to changing circumstances. Embrace your resourcefulness.
  3. Independence: This card represents individuality and the freedom to pursue your own path. Trust your instincts and make independent choices.
  4. Immune to Propaganda: It signifies the ability to apply critical thinking and discernment when bombarded with propaganda.

Remember, tarot cards can have various interpretations, and the context of the reading can influence their meaning. Use your intuition to find the interpretation that resonates with you the most.

Getting to Know the 7 of Swords

The 7 of Swords (Moon in Aquarius) is often seen as a card of thievery, deception, and self-deception. From a spiritual point of view, the only thing that matters in the realm of Swords/communication (because it is the only parameter within our control) is that we are truthful with ourselves and others. Let’s take a look at the 7 of Swords Tarot card meanings with that in mind.

“Above all, don’t lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.”
― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Becoming the Observer

The ego loves to deceive because that is how it stays in control. The lies we tell ourselves every day about ourselves, what we are capable of, the nature of life itself, and the evil nature of others (projections) will not dissipate until we are willing to go into silence and become the observers of our own thoughts. This is a process and does not happen overnight. It takes time and discipline. And once the ability to observe one’s thoughts has been learned, the observing Higher Mind has to be ever-vigilant.

In the legal system in many countries, people place their hands on the Holy Scripture before giving testimony. This is a sort of self-check system which makes the witness face their own integrity levels before giving testimony.

More of us should check ourselves before we speak. Because even the use of ‘white lies’ or exaggerating the truth, creates icky energy to be around. White lies prevent us from truly being who we are… And who we truly are is always so much better than the mask or persona we create with our lies.

“Reality denied comes back to haunt.”
― Philip K. Dick

Planning

A more neutral or even positive take on the 7 of Swords is that it is about gaining clarity and coming up with an action plan. This is actually what I chose to depict in my own Tarot deck, the Frideborg Tarot. However, it is good to bear in mind that ‘man plans and God laughs!’ It is wise to not invest too heavily in our own cunning but rely more on Divine guidance by staying humble and receptive.

Affirmation: “I allow my Higher Self to check and edit my thoughts for truth; I speak without projection or embellishment.”

7 of Swords Prayer

Dear Mother-Father God, forgive me my self-deception and help me be honest in thought, word and deed. Thank you for the gifts of clarity, truth and wisdom the Holy Spirit brings every time I ask. Amen and so it is!

The 7 of Swords in Love and Relationships

If the 7 of Swords describes your relationship or the person you are seeing, you could be seeing someone who withholds the truth as they see fit. Alternatively, you could be dating someone quick-witted or a conspiracy theorist. “Conspiracy theories” is the label media applies when someone applies critical thinking to carefully analyse the news.

But more often than not, the truth is being concealed on purpose. Your love interest could be trying to gain the upper hand by hiding vital facts from you. Or it could be you doing it to them! The least hint of this in a romantic relationship and you should take it for the red flag it is. This relationship is not about love; It’s about power and/or personal gain.

For yourself, this card indicates a need to analyse the relationship and make plans… but beware! You could be deceiving yourself. Is there someone you could ask for help to gain more insight into your situation? And perhaps you need some hard evidence before you accuse your partner of cheating.

Intimacy

You or your love interest could be Sapiosexual.
