Haindl Tarot Deck Interview

The Haindl Tarot arrived through the post earlier this week but I didn’t have time to interact with it properly until yesterday. An eBay find like this can sometimes have a sticky energy but this deck felt pristine though the box was a bit worn. As I was looking through the cards, connecting with them one by one, I was amazed to find three unicorns in the deck.

As someone who works with a unicorn spirit guide, this was a clear sign that the Haindl Tarot deck would be important to me. Having not previously connected with the artwork all those times I had come across the Haindl Tarot deck online, handling the cards, I was surprised by how strong the emotional connection was.

These cards are truly magical and the art touched something deep within my soul. Perhaps this is why the Haindl Tarot doesn’t appeal at a glance when you are shopping online for a new deck. Like with a quiet introvert who has hidden depth, you need to make an effort when you sit down with this deck… but when you do, you may very well discover a new friend for life.

Haindl Tarot Deck Interview

1. Describe yourself in three words or less – 2 of Cups

HT: Star-crossed lover

Me: Whom do you love?

HT: Life and love itself

Me: Why do you feel as if this love was ill-fated?

HT: The difficult beginnings and then finding so much beauty just before it was nearly too late…

2. How would your best friend describe you using only three words? – 2 of Pentacles

HT: Adaptable, stabilising, harmonising

Me: Does this come from having had to navigate so much pain and difficulty in your own life?

HT: It does indeed and it makes it feel as if it was all worth it

The Gift of the Haindl Tarot is Death (!)

3. What gift do you bring? – Death

HT: To push past the fear of going deep into the shadowlands of the psyche. Inspiration to transmute the dross in your life into true alchemical gold.

Me: This is as I expected. Thank you.

4. What do you expect in return? – 8 of Swords

HT: That you free yourself from preconceived ideas and don’t allow negative, looping thoughts to hold you back.

Me: Yes, I can see how that will be necessary in order for the alchemical process to develop fully. I’m definitely a work in progress in that regard.

A good deck for times of pain and sadness

5. How can you help me serve? – 5 of Cups

HT: I can help when you are grieving and it seems that your pain is too much for any human to bear. I can help you and your clients find the silver lining to any situation.

Me: Yes, I think I can already see that you will be my favourite deck for times of loss and sorrow. This fits with the Death card theme as well.

6. Is there anything else you would like to tell me about yourself? – 7 of Cups

HT: Don’t laugh. I know you got this card for the Thomson-Leng Tarot in the exact same position the other day but it is true – The same applies here. You are not ready to know all my secrets yet, OK? Just trust that all will be revealed in due course… And of course, ordering those companion books was a good idea.

Me: I’m not laughing; I’m smirking… lol OK, OK… sigh… Well, you know I’m not the most patient person in the world but I do look forward to reading those books and getting to know you better. I had the pleasure of meeting Rachel Pollack a few years ago at the UK Tarot Conference and I have no doubt the books will contain many pearls of wisdom.

Thank you so much for answering my questions and I look forward to doing the week-ahead messages with you later on today!

HT: You’re welcome!

  1. Hi! The Haindl has been my go-to deck since the 90’s. The secrets will indeed reveal themselves and continue to do so. I still discover new bits in these cards and I use them multiple times a week.

I have no doubt Pollack’s books will serve you by creating a foundation that you can continue to leap from, reference, and enjoy. Her interviews with HH and anecdotal information about how he saw the cards married with her experience is a treasure trove.

While I will use this deck whenever it calls (which is often), it is so powerful for me when I’m reading for people who are looking for or interested in a higher purpose, for guidance that will transform their lives. It is less mundane (though detail will never escape this deck if you’re looking for it) and more spiritual.

I also use it if I’m doing a reading that can or should involve mediumship. No other deck has connected in this space like the Haindl for me.

I also believe that the guides I connect with love to use this deck. They just had to wait for me to catch up to them and how we could use it together.

Hi Seth, thanks for sharing your experience of working with the Haindl Tarot. How interesting to hear that you use it for mediumship – I can see how that extra dimension and layer of meaning that seems to be present in these cards would lend itself well to that! Blessed be!
