Uruz – Rune of Power

The Elder Futhark rune uruz is the rune referring to the now extinct European bison known as aurochs (uroxe in Swedish). Young men had to slay their first aurochs as a rite of passage. Hunting down this animal took both courage and perseverance.

Some of the more commonly accepted divinatory meanings and keywords for uruz are: stamina, endurance, life force, healing, vitality, courage and manifestation.

Stripped back meaning based on the actual word and shape

I find myself agreeing with the more common interpretations of this rune. I believe the reason is because the rune speaks so loudly. A good comparison in the world of Angels would be Archangel Michael and how he is the easiest to ‘hear’ because of how powerful he is. The rune gives us the outline of the bos primigenius – a shorthand note for the word ‘uroxe.’ This rune carries the blueprint of original, healthy DNA where the life force flows unobstructed.

Holistic Healing Tips for Uruz

When Uruz is a central rune in your reading, allow your mind to first tune into the energy levels of the Seeker (or self if reading for yourself). Don’t be afraid to use your tingly senses for this purpose since that is just the sort of thing this rune encourages – a return to using the healing power we are all born with.

Of course, this is not the same as giving yourself or the Seeker a medical diagnosis, it’s more about learning to listen to your body with your primal senses.

Get up and move to see if you can free the blocked energy and get it circulating again. OR (if this is what you intuit) stay seated (or even lie down) and place your hands on the area of blocked energy, visualising healing light going into that darker, denser energy to dissolve any blockages.

This rune could also come with an instruction that you would benefit from vigorous exercise to get the blood and energy flowing.

Either way, it is important to follow up with taking plenty of liquids to help the body detox.

You can also place the rune itself on the body where you sense a block and chant the rune name out loud: oor-ooze (please note that nobody knows exactly how these runes were pronounced in ancient times so feel free to experiment!)

Affirmations

  • I allow my natural strength to rise up within me.
  • I accept my sexuality.
  • I have the power to self-heal.
  • Being healthy and whole is my natural state.
  • My life force flows unobstructed.
  • I persevere and succeed.
  • I am brave and can handle whatever life throws at me.

To strengthen the effect of the affirmation, you can draw the Uruz rune over a glass of water. Say the affirmation out loud while holding the glass. Then drink it mindfully to flush out any residual blocks being completely healthy and well in yourself.

Uruz Prayer

Dear Mother-Father God, Thank you for how wonderfully you made me. Thank you for the divine spark of life that flows through me, keeps me alive and directs me on my path. Help me to stay in harmony with this spark so that I can stay strong in your service. Thy will be done. Amen

Blessed be!
