888 & the Lion’s Gate Portal: A Hermetic Christian Guide to Spiritual Rebirth

Radiant figure in white robes walking through an open golden portal beneath the Lion of Judah, with the number 888, stars, candles, lilies and Christian symbols representing the 888 Lion's Gate Portal and spiritual rebirth.

Every year on 8 August, countless spiritual seekers celebrate the Lion’s Gate Portal as a time of heightened energy, manifestation and personal transformation. While I appreciate the symbolism of this annual alignment, my own understanding has changed considerably over the past few years.

Today, I see the Lion’s Gate Portal less as an opportunity to attract what I want and more as an invitation to spiritual rebirth. Rather than asking, What can I manifest? I now ask, What in me is ready to be born again?

Studying Christian Hermeticism, Neoplatonic theurgy, Renaissance magic and the teachings of Yeshua has gradually reshaped my perspective. Together, they point towards a form of spiritual practice that seeks not to control reality but to cooperate with Divine Wisdom in the ongoing healing of creation.

The Meaning of 888 in Christian Hermeticism

In Christian numerology, the number 888 has long been associated with Yeshua through Greek gematria. Using the ancient practice of assigning numerical values to letters, the Greek name Ιησοῦς (Iēsous) totals 888, making the number a symbol of Christ and the new creation inaugurated through him.

The symbolism of eight reaches even deeper than gematria. Early Christians associated the number with the eighth day—the day of Christ’s Resurrection and the beginning of the new creation. While the Sabbath marked the completion of the old creation, the eighth day represented a new order of existence that transcended ordinary time. This is one reason many early baptisteries have eight sides, symbolising death to the old life and rebirth in Christ.

From a Christian Hermetic perspective, 888 therefore speaks less about acquiring spiritual power than about participating in Divine Life. The emphasis shifts from external change to inner transformation, recognising that lasting renewal begins in the heart before we express it in the world.

The Lion’s Gate Portal Through a Christian Hermetic Lens

The Lion’s Gate Portal is a modern spiritual observance centred on the annual alignment of the Sun in Leo with the star Sirius, reaching its symbolic peak on 8 August (8/8). Many people regard this period as a time of heightened spiritual awareness, inspiration and transformation.

Whether the Lion’s Gate Portal represents a unique metaphysical event or simply serves as a powerful spiritual symbol is ultimately a matter of personal belief. Either way, the symbolism invites reflection.

For Christians, the image of the lion already carries profound significance. The Book of Revelation proclaims Christ as the Lion of Judah (Revelation 5:5), a title that speaks not only of kingship but of victory through self-giving love. The Lion who conquers is also the Lamb who is slain, reminding us that true spiritual authority is expressed through humility, compassion and faithful service.

This understanding transforms how we approach the Lion’s Gate Portal. Rather than seeing it as an opportunity to acquire greater spiritual power, we can receive it as an invitation to deepen our participation in the life of Christ. The real threshold is not somewhere in the heavens but within the human heart, where old patterns give way to new life through continual conversion and renewal.

For those walking a Hermetic Christian path, the Lion’s Gate becomes a yearly reminder that the work of transformation is never complete. Each passage through the gate invites us to become a little more transparent to Divine Wisdom, allowing the Light of Christ to shape not only our inner lives but also the way we meet the world.

Prayer for Spiritual Rebirth

Beloved Christ,

On this day of new beginnings, I open the door of my heart to your transforming presence.

May your Light shine into every corner of my being, revealing all that no longer serves the Highest Good of All.

Where there is fear, awaken trust.

Plant the seeds of forgiveness where resentment still lingers.

Purify the eye of my heart so that I may see others as you see them and become a living instrument of your peace.

Guide my thoughts, words and actions so that they bring healing rather than harm, freedom rather than fear, and hope rather than despair.

May my life become a willing participation in the ongoing repair of the world.

Amen.

Walking Through the Gate

Every year, the Lion’s Gate Portal invites us to cross a threshold. Whether we understand that threshold astrologically, metaphorically or devotionally matters less than how we choose to respond to it.

For me, the real gate is the human heart. Every act of prayer, every Tarot reading and each sincere effort to live in harmony with with Divine Wisdom becomes another opportunity to be born again and participate more fully in Tikkun Olam for the Highest Good.

This year’s Lion’s Gate Portal also falls just days before the Leo Solar Eclipse, making the first half of August a particularly rich time for prayer, reflection and intentional spiritual practice.

May this season draw you closer to the Light of the Divine, deepen your love for all creation and strengthen your resolve to take your place in the ongoing repair of the world.
