How have you been feeling lately? I don’t know about you but I sure could use some quick, fun and wholesome ways to boost my mood after all the bad weather we’ve had this year. (Looking at you, summer of ’24!) So to lift the vibration of the collective, I created the guide to 10 Quick Tarot Mood-Boosters below. Let me know your favourite in the comments!
1. One-Card Gratitude Draw
Shuffle and cut as usual. Pull a single card face down and reflect on how its positive aspects have been or can be sources of gratitude in your life.
“But Raven, what if one of the more challenging cards come up here?” Fair question! Let’s use the 9 of Swords as an example.
I fully believe that all 78 cards contain the full spectrum of light and dark. Sometimes, we just have to do a bit more digging to find the light in a card like the 9 of Swords.
Some of the Positive Meanings for the 9 of Swords
- Awareness and Clarity: The 9 of Swords signifies heightened awareness. It can indicate that you’re becoming more conscious of the sources of your anxiety or worry, giving you a chance to address them with clarity.
- Release and Healing: This card can be a sign that you are in the process of releasing old fears and anxieties. It’s an opportunity to confront and deal with negative emotions, leading to personal healing and growth.
- Empathy and Compassion: Experiencing challenges can make you more empathetic toward others who are going through similar situations. The 9 of Swords encourages you to use your experiences to develop greater compassion for yourself and others.
Challenge yourself to find at least three things to be grateful for, no matter what card shows up.
2. Create a Mood-Boosting Affirmation
Draw a card and create a positive affirmation based on its message to boost your mood for the day. Again, this may be more challenging (but equally, more rewarding) when you pull one of the visually darker cards. Let’s use the 5 of Cups as our example here:
Positive Affirmations for the 5 of Cups
- I choose to focus on the full cups and the abundance still present in my life.
- Every setback is a setup for a comeback; I learn and grow from every experience.
- I release regret and embrace the opportunities that come from change.
- My heart is open to healing and finding joy in the present moment.
3. Quick Inspiration Spread
One simple way to feel more inspired is to use the common 3-card Mind-Body-Spirit spread. In doing so, choose one positive action for each, based on the cards you pulled.
Optional: Hold yourself accountable by writing down how implementing the actions went and reflecting on if there is anything that could have gone better.
Another quick 3-card spread to try is the ‘Joyful Journey Spread.’ This 3-card spread can help you focus on generating more joy in the day ahead.
- What brings me joy? – This card reveals an activity, person, or situation that brings you happiness.
- How can I embrace joy more fully? – This card offers guidance on how to welcome and enhance joy in your life.
- What joy awaits me in the future? – This card provides a glimpse into a joyful event or experience on the horizon.
Or you could try a 3-card spread for creative inspiration:
- Current source of inspiration – Identify what or who is currently inspiring you and why.
- Blockage to inspiration – Understand what might be hindering your motivation or creativity.
- Actionable mood-boosting step to ignite inspiration – Discover a practical step you can take to overcome blockages and boost your inspiration.
Of course, you don’t have to limit yourself to the spreads above. Any quick reading with three cards or less and a positive focus can be a great way to boost your mood. Just make sure to choose a Tarot deck that is visually uplifting!
4. Tarot Card Meditation
Choose a card with uplifting imagery and meditate on it for a few moments. You can choose the card face up or face down. If you choose a card face down that you do not like, simply empower yourself with the ‘Cancel, Clear, Delete’ command and pick another card. For this exercise, you need to enjoy imagining stepping into the card.
Spend a moment looking at the card. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Imagine entering into the scenery depicted in the card and see what intuitive hits you get about how to increase your happiness levels.
5. Happy Memory Stir
Think of a happy memory. Go through the deck and find a card that reminds you of the happy memory. Take a moment to relive that joy.
6. Tarot Self-Love Check-In
Choose a card that symbolises self-love, nurturing and compassion toward yourself. Reflect on how you can embody that today. Act on it!
7. Mood-Boosting Future Visioning
Select a card that represents a positive future outcome. Spend a few minutes visualising achieving that goal. Again, you may wish to choose the card face down. No harm if you do not like the first card you choose this way. Remember, you are the chooser and co-creator of your own life!
You may wish to combine this game with the Tarot affirmation in example 2. Alternatively, CLICK HERE for an in-depth guide on how to work with Tarot Affirmations.
8. Boost Someone Else’s Mood
Ask Spirit for a message from the cards about how to brighten someone else’s day. This is often the quickest and most powerful way to boost our own mood when we are feeling a bit blah or down in the dumps. Pull a single card to receive your answer. If you receive The High Priestess, maybe you get to use your intuitive gifts to help brighten someone’s day.
9. Nature Walk Inspiration
Pull a card before going for a walk in nature. Ask how you can connect with nature or what sign to look out for. Be fully present and alert to what Spirit will show you during the walk. Know that nature always responds when we open our senses this way but that it may take a while for us to learn how to read the messages. If you get The Empress or The World, you may find yourself receiving a hug from the very soul of nature herself on your walk.
10. Creative Spark Draw
Draw a card centered on creativity and channel its energy into a spontaneous, fun creative activity, like doodling or journaling. Set a timer to three minutes once you have pulled the card and let your creativity rip. That way, you won’t have time to self-censor or criticise what you are doing.
Start your day with any of these Tarot mood-boosters or to quickly shift your mindset throughout the day, whenever you need them.
