The Jolanda Witch Tarot Review and Deck Interview

jolanda witch tarot

The Jolanda Witch Tarot was one of my first Tarot decks after I started collecting decks in my early 30s. I had the Swedish first edition of ‘Jolanda den Tredjes Tarot’ aka ‘The Swedish Witch Tarot.’ My long-lost friend and I have now been reunited. I sadly dumped my 2001 Swedish edition, which included hard back companion book, in a recycling skip in 2020 due to religious trauma.

While I miss not being able to read Rosie Björkman’s musings on Tarot and magic in my native Swedish, the English soft-cover edition seems to be a decent translation and substitute. The publisher, Findhorn Press, has done a good job with the layout so that the different sections for each card stand out and are clearly visible at a glance.

This 400-page companion book is more than just a Tarot book: It’s a complete introduction to Rosie’s tradition and system of magic. A few spreads are included but the meat of the book is definitely in the card meanings/magical uses. I especially love how Rosie talks about the cards for relationship guidance. She has a great grasp on soul alchemy at the interpersonal level.

In the video below, I share all 78 cards of the Jolanda Witch Tarot.

Some Key Points About the Cards

  • Slightly larger than a traditional Tarot deck
  • The card backs are not reversible (my preference) but reversed card meanings are included in the companion book
  • HUGE borders (NOT my preference)
  • The card stock is good quality
  • Silky matte finish
  • The artwork gives off awesome 70s vibes, especially for those of us who grew up in Sweden during the ABBA era. Hans Arnold created the iconic inside cover for ABBA’s Greatest Hits
  • Esoterically, there is a mix of influences, mainly from the Western Mystery tradition
  • More Thoth than RWS, especially with the Justice and Strength reversal and keywords on the Minors
  • The Court cards are Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses
