I have often listened to astrologers mention asteroids, but other than Chiron (The Wounded Healer), I haven’t really bothered looking into them. It felt as if I had a full plate already, trying to keep track of my natal chart, transits, and progressions. However, not long ago, I started looking into the Egyptian asteroids as well as Hekat (Hekate), and I found some relevant information that helped me navigate recent changes on my spiritual path.
That’s when it occurred to me that the Norse pantheon may also have been assigned asteroids. So I looked up asteroid Odin online… Sure enough! Asteroid Odin has been given the number 3989.
And while I had found helpful information regarding the Egyptian asteroids, the insights I gained when I looked into Odin had me gobsmacked. As it turns out, asteroid 3989 is exactly conjunct Chiron in Aries, 10th House, in my natal chart, and few things have ever made more sense. So I had to share what I learned. Let me know where your Odin falls in the comments!

General Information about Asteroid Odin
Astronomy: Discovered in 1986 by Poul Jensen at Brorfelde Observatory, asteroid Odin (3989) is about 3.8 km wide and orbits the Sun every 3.39 years.
Mythology: Odin is the Allfather of the Norse pantheon — god of wisdom, poetry, magic, war, and death. His defining traits are sacrifice for knowledge (losing an eye at Mimir’s well, hanging on Yggdrasil to win the runes), shamanic journeys across the worlds, and guiding souls as psychopomp. He is “the Master of Ecstasy,” linked to altered states, visionary insight, and the paradoxical wisdom that arises when logic meets intuition.
Astrological Core Themes:
- Wisdom through sacrifice
- Shamanic and non-linear perception
- Death and rebirth cycles
- Poetic inspiration and magical language
- Leadership through wisdom and vision
Wherever Odin sits in your chart, you find the part of life where you are asked to sacrifice comfort in order to gain insight, to embody the shamanic seeker, and to weave wisdom into action.

Case study: I have Odin in the 10th conjunct Chiron in Aries, and it fits like a key in a lock. My public life as a blogger is one long quest to learn, test, and then share the wisdom won on the road. The Chiron conjunction speaks to my very public religious-trauma healing; I don’t hide the scars—I use them as signposts. This placement keeps calling me to model leadership that is honest about wounds, rigorous about truth, and generous with what the quest teaches.
Odin in the 11th House
Movements, networks, and the future. Sacrifice: popularity. Growth: tell the liberating truth, build communities that learn, invent, and include.
Odin in the 12th House
Solitude, dreams, and mystic service. Sacrifice: egoic storyline. Growth: contemplative practice, spiritual stewardship, behind-the-scenes guardianship.
Working With Odin Aspects (Quick Notes)
Conjunctions intensify the quest; squares demand the sacrifice; oppositions call for integration with a counterpart; trines/sextiles open fluent access to non-linear perception. With Chiron, themes of wounded-healer wisdom get mythically underlined; with Mercury, language becomes spellcraft; with Pluto, underworld initiations beckon.
