Many of the readings I do are based on a question rather than set spreads such as the 12 Houses Zodiac Tarot Spread or the Celtic Cross Tarot Spread. After many years of doing readings, I have reached a method for reading intuitively that is flexible, flows and allows me to connect with the question at hand on a deep energetic level. Some spread layouts have this level of flexibility built into them. Today, I share my favourite flexy intuitive relationship Tarot spread with you.

The Intuitive Relationship Tarot Spread
This story-telling style relationship Tarot spread in the image above is the spread I used for almost all relationship readings I do. The story spread uses groups of three cards that tell a story. You still rely on traditional card meanings to a certain extent. But visual clues and how the cards interact become more important. For more complex questions you can use several groups of three. In the picture above you see how I usually lay the cards out in story spread format when I read on a relationship question.
The Seeker’s cards are to the left and the partner’s are to the right. The relationship dynamic (seen as a separate entity) forms a ‘bridge’ between the two. These three bridge cards at the top of the spread, above the two groups that represent the lovers, show the trajectory of the relationship.
The three bridge cards roughly read as past-present-future. Under the card for the ‘present’ is the card connecting the two lovers and shows the quality of the energetic connection between them. Below, at the bottom of the spread, you find advice cards for the Seeker. This gives us a total of 13 cards – the number of Death/Transformation. A coincidence? Of course not.
This intuitive relationship Tarot spread isn’t just for romance-type readings, by the way. It works just as well for relationships with friends, colleagues and family members. This spread is essentially my modified/extended take on Robert M Place’s Bridge Tarot Spread found in the book ‘The Tarot: History, Symbolism, and Divination.’
