Owning Your Epic Bigness Tarot Spread

woman owning her epic bigness

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~ Marianne Williamson

A while back, I created a spread to use for personal development called Being Me. This spread contains a card position that helps you look more closely at what you are afraid to own and therefore tend to project onto others. In the case of fear of success, we attribute others with all the positive qualities and ability to succeed that we shy away from out of fear. This type of projection is known as the ‘Golden shadow’ in Jungian terms.

While the Being Me spread is OK to use as it may reveal a Golden shadow. I felt it was too general and decided to create a spread that focuses more specifically on the Golden shadow and would provide a way to transmute any fears of success into a spirit of ‘feeling the fear and doing it anyway.’

1. Your greatest fear about stepping into your Epic Bigness

It could be a fear of losing people, a general fear of the unknown, a fear of having to assume more responsibility, feeling like a fraudster who is faking it, etc… This card will give you something to focus on so that you can tackle it head on.

2. Challenge to overcome this fear

In order to overcome this fear, you need to push past this boundary of your comfort zone. Or as Neale Donald Walsch would say:

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

3. Letting go of this

This is something that you will have to say bye-bye to or someone who will feel too challenged by your transformation into a butterfly of epic bigness. It could be a whole group of people (friends and/or family members). The card in this position will help you prepare for this part of the transition you are making.

4. New channel of support

This is a person, spirit guide, Angel or new network of people who you can rely on for support. Gradually, as you come into your own, you will start connecting with people who vibrate on your new, higher level.

5. Leadership responsibility

This will be a leadership quality that you will assume upon your transformation. Forget about the expectations of ‘others’ and remember that you are accountable to nobody but God. Or as Mother Theresa would say:

“In the end, it was always between you and God.”

I have also created the Golden Shadow spread which you might enjoy giving a whirl. You may even like to do both together for a more in-depth reading.

Love,

  1. Great spread. Really like the focus of it and the scope too. Thank you 🙂

  2. It's not the need for balance that you need to let go of but indecisiveness (Moon in Libra). Boldly take the next step on your journey! Glad you enjoyed the spread 🙂 Blessings, Lisa

  3. Lisa,

This spread yielded some interesting results for me…I'm so happy you created it. I always enjoy the time I get to communicate with my Higher Self by way of the Tarot. My spirit guide showed herself in my deck for #4; she is the 8 and 9 of wands in my Mythical Goddess Tarot Deck.

For #3, though, I pulled the 2 of swords. This has me stumped, as the card indicates a need of balance…but this is something I am to let go of? I'm interested to hear your take on it!

  4. Thanks Lisa! Food for thought indeed! Learning to stop controlling and to trust the process and synchronicity is indeed something that rings quite true for me right now. With hindsight, it's interesting that I brought up the Emperor (who is more into control and controlling) in a spread where it didn't even feature! As if I've internalized it so much I keep reading it in each Tarot-sentence…

I like your reminder for the Empress too. After a long period of chosen introversion, I find I am more sociable again and that would describe very well both what I seek and what I've been surprised to find (both in terms of what I receive as well as what I feel inspired and encouraged to give of myself).

A very empowering reading (and spread!). I love the focus on what one can do/how one can rise up. The power within if you will…! 😀

Hugs and thank you again 😀

  5. Hi Maria, glad to hear you enjoy my site and this spread! 🙂 Interestingly, The Wheel of Fortune (Jupiter) has a planetary correspondence with the 8 of Swords (Jupiter in Gemini). Perhaps you would like to ponder this connection a bit more in-depth…? What immediately sprang to mind for me though was the quality of letting go… Try to stop controlling fate and star trusting more in the synchronicities. Also, with the Empress, you should be looking for support in typically feminine environments and nurture your own femininity/receptivity (and yes, this would balance the Emperor influenes) — The quality of being receptive requires a lot of trust. Hope this helps! Blessings, Lisa

  6. Hi Lisa,

I love the site, your approach to Tarot (I'm a big fan of using the Tarot for self improvement, peace and growth most of all). The second I saw the Epic Bigness Tarot Spread I knew I had to try it!

    My own reading:

    1. Your greatest fear about stepping into your Epic Bigness – 8 of Swords
I personally interpret this has (over-)thinking paralysis. I constantly second guess every other thing that I do, say and sometimes even think, so I can get pretty caught up to the point of not doing anything for quite a while. I am conscious of this though and working on it 🙂
    2. Challenge to overcome this fear – The Hermit
I've interpreted this as both learning to trust my own inner guidance, judgement and learning to hear that voice that ultimately knows (and knows how to make/take decisions). Learning to listen to myself in a sense.
Since this is an earthly card (and a teacher card) for me, this is also an encouragement to find example of what I want to cultivate in myself in others and using their example as both a motivation and an inspiration (modeling if you will).
    3. Letting go of this – The Wheel of Fortune
This one stumps me somewhat. I get this card a lot for a little while now (which makes me wander if I should do the stalker spread with it ;)). Since the Wheel of Fortune represents the need to be adaptable, to be centered while things change around you, I have a hard time taking it as something to "let go of"…
    4. New channel of support – The Empress

I see this card as generosity, warmth, nurturing and pleasure. With a Moon in Cancer and Jupiter in Leo, I can and tend to behave this way and welcome those who behave the same I must admit. Environments that promote growth and individuation are also a fetish of some sort! I am also in a phase where I'm very into learning the lessons of the Emperor, and I find those two go hand in hand for ideal balance as the Emperor can be to dry alone and the Empress can be too opulent and indulgent if in excess.
    5. Leadership responsibility – 2 of Swords
I interpret this as balance, an equilibrium and distancing oneself from emotions to gain clarity when necessary. Which is… interesting!

The Wheel of Fortune still puzzles me so if you have any idea of what it could mean in that position feel free 😀

Whichever way, wanted to say that I love this spread! I can see myself using it whenever I feel no longer attuned to myself, disconnected in some way 🙂

  7. You know, I was looking for recommendations for Android Tarot apps and stumbled over your site. Saw this post link and thought "Hmmm…" found this spread and went "AAAAGGGHHHHHHH !!!!! This is what I've been looking for !!!!!!"

    I see you're a Leonie fan too 🙂 Always a good sign :))

Am off to pick a deck to run this on now …. Universal, Gaian Oracle or Greenwood ? All three ?!? I'll let you know how it goes 🙂

Good to have found you ! Consider yourself bookmarked and about to be read !!

    Cheers and THANKYOU !

    Molly

  8. Checking the soul connection between you and the other person with the help of the cards… How would that be spying? That's like sitting down and checking what sort of connection you have with your own intuition… Surely we must allow ourselves to do that? How else are we supposed to navigate the relationship spaces?

That said, if in doubt don't – until you've managed to shed those doubts.

  9. Awesome I have Orphalese! Very handy.

I'm practising doing relationship readings. I've only ever done one before in the six years I have been regularly reading tarot. Part of the reason is I don't like doing them without the other person's consent beforehand as it feels I'm prying into the other person's life without their consent. I usually get very insightful readings.

I'm working on a new relationship reading method. It uses a split deck. It takes one major, court, and minor and asks the question: Tell me about the soul connection between _____ and _____. Trying to decide if it needs the permission of the second party or person's involved.

Thoughts? I'm feeling a little out of my depth.
