Devotion and dedication are often derailed by distraction. There are so many voices vying for attention in the spiritual community. Channelled messages are flying off the shelf on every social media platform, promising assistance from Galactic Federations and other, “more evolved” spiritual beings that somehow never show up on Earth. Planetary alignments and portals are all good and well but they often seem to overpromise and underdeliver before we’re on to the next “consciousness-shifting event,” complete with clickbait headlines and captivating YouTube thumbnails.
Go to the Going Deeper Tarot Spread
The human personality mind (aka the ego mind) is very easily distracted. We don’t want to miss any news, so we tend to remain hyper-alert during times of great change. This is understandable but also regrettable because during transformational times, we need to go within more than ever. The remedy for distraction is to go deeper, go within and make sure that our connection with God-Source is stronger than ever.
A Message from the Master
These thoughts have been percolating in my mind for a few days, ever since reading the passage from the Gospel of Thomas below:
Jesus said, “Woe to the flesh that depends upon a soul. Woe to the soul that depends upon flesh.”
~Logion 112
The image that emerged from meditating on these words was of a closed-loop mechanical system without any input from Spirit. It’s an ego-driven system devoid of divine devotion and dedication to any spiritual practice. This system is at once both Earth itself and each human individual when we forget to pray. And by “pray,” I don’t necessarily mean traditional prayers. It is enough to say, “Show me!” when we don’t know the way and where to go next. Saying “Show me!” is a prayer that God-Source can’t resist because the divine lives and experiences through you and wishes to lovingly see through your eyes. Your spirit self can only truly have the full experience when the ego-mind steps aside and relinquishes control of all the senses.
When Spirit/God-Source starts communicating in response to this simple prayer, you will most likely find that a door opens in your own heart, which angels are welcoming you to step through. The invitation is to go deeper within.
Tarot Musings on the Message
Can the Tarot help us go deeper? Yes, it can! It’s a neutral tool that responds very happily when we say, “Show me!” However, whether it takes us deeper within and helps us connect with the divine or serves the ego depends entirely on our intention.
When I asked the Tarot to illuminate the message contained in Logion 112, for this phase of my spiritual journey, I received the following:

A Lesson about Devotion and Dedication from Queen Esther
The Page of Feathers/Swords is represented by Queen Esther in the Biblical Tarot. She is the Israelite woman who marries the Persian King Ahasuerus and saves her people from slaughter. According to the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary, the interpretation is, “The dissolving power of spiritual love; (…) an antidote for a dictatorial will.” To achieve her objective of softening the King’s heart, Esther leads the people in a fast, abnegation of the ego, an act of devotion and dedication to make room for a miracle of love.
I find it interesting that this card showed up in the shadow position of my two-card pull. We can easily detect the shadow aspect of the Page of Swords/Feathers in the constant doom scrolling we do, or in listening to a multitude of “experts” rather than going within. I own up to being guilty of this myself. The ego is quick to tell us there is nothing of interest within our being when nothing could be further from the truth.
Queen Esther teaches us a way out of the shadows of the mind by denying the ego impulse to constantly look outside ourselves.
A Lesson About Devotion and Dedication from the Prophet Jeremiah
Jeremiah is often referred to as “The Sorrowful Prophet” because of the profound grief and emotional turmoil he experienced during his ministry. According to the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary, the meaning of Jeremiah is “Spiritual faith demanding that all religious thoughts be true in observance of divine law.”
Learning from Jeremiah
- Obedience to God’s Call: Despite facing rejection, ridicule, and imprisonment, Jeremiah remained faithful to his prophetic calling. His dedication reminds us to prioritise God’s will over personal comfort or societal approval.
- Courage in the Face of Adversity: Jeremiah’s ministry was one of opposition and suffering, yet he continued to speak God’s truth without compromise.
- Compassion and Love for Others: Jeremiah’s sorrow for his people reveals his deep compassion and love, even for those who rejected him. His example challenges us to love others selflessly.
- Perseverance in Difficult Times: Jeremiah had a hard life, yet he never abandoned his mission. His perseverance teaches us to remain steadfast in our devotion and dedication to God.
- Honesty in Prayer: Jeremiah’s prayers, often showing raw emotion and questions, demonstrate the importance of being honest with God-Source. He poured out his heart, expressing his doubts, frustrations, and sorrows.
- Hope in God’s Promises: Despite the overwhelming sorrow, Jeremiah held onto hope in God’s faithfulness: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Jeremiah’s life is a powerful example of devotion and dedication. It shows us how true faithfulness to the divine often involves sacrifice, perseverance, and a heart that deeply cares for others. The Biblical Tarot beautifully and poignantly illustrates these concepts in the 10 of Candles/Wands.

Going Deeper Sample Tarot Reading with the Tarot Grand Luxe
1. The Distraction – King of Pentacles
What is currently pulling me away from my spiritual focus?
The King of Pentacles represents a focus on material stability, success, and control. Right now, I may be overly concerned with external achievements, financial security, or maintaining a sense of authority in my life. This card suggests that my spiritual focus is being derailed by an attachment to worldly responsibilities or the desire for tangible results. I might be prioritising comfort and security over inner growth, which is keeping me from going deeper within.
2. The Call Within – Knight of Pentacles
What is my soul urging me to pay attention to right now?
The Knight of Pentacles is a call to dedication, patience, and steady progress. My soul is urging me to commit to a disciplined spiritual practice, even if it feels slow or mundane. This card reminds me that true growth comes from consistent effort and a grounded approach. It’s time to focus on the small, practical steps that will lead to deeper connection and transformation. My inner self is asking me to show up faithfully, even when the results aren’t immediately visible.
3. The Shadow – 6 of Cups
What ego-driven pattern or fear is blocking my spiritual growth?
The 6 of Cups points to nostalgia, clinging to the past, or seeking comfort in familiar patterns. My shadow is tied to a longing for the simplicity of being told what to believe that I experienced through many religious past lives. This card suggests that I may be avoiding the present moment by retreating into memories or idealised versions of the past. To go deeper, I need to release this attachment and embrace the growth that comes from facing the present with openness and courage.
4. The Invitation – 5 of Swords
What door is Spirit inviting me to step through?
The 5 of Swords is a challenging card, often associated with conflict, ego battles, and the need to let go of winning at all costs. Spirit is inviting me to step through the door of surrender—to release the need to be right, to control outcomes, or to engage in mental or emotional warfare. This card calls me to examine where I’ve been prioritising my ego over my soul and to choose peace over conflict (no more doomscrolling). It’s an invitation to lay down my swords and trust in divine guidance.
5. The Practice – The Emperor
What spiritual practice or action will help me reconnect with the divine?
The Emperor represents structure, authority, and disciplined action. To reconnect with the divine, I need to establish a consistent spiritual practice that provides stability and order. This could involve creating a daily routine of prayer, meditation, or study, or setting clear boundaries to protect my spiritual time. The Emperor also encourages me to take ownership of my spiritual journey, stepping into a leadership role in my own life. By embodying the Emperor’s energy, I can build a strong foundation for my connection with God-Source.
6. The Lesson – Knight of Swords
What can I learn from this phase of my spiritual journey?
The Knight of Swords is a card of swift action, clarity, and speaking the truth. This phase of my journey is teaching me the importance of cutting through illusions and being honest with myself and others. The Knight of Swords encourages me to communicate my spiritual insights boldly and to pursue truth with determination. However, I must also be mindful of balancing this energy with compassion, ensuring that my pursuit of truth doesn’t become overly aggressive or detached from the heart.
7. The Promise – King of Cups
What hope or divine promise can I hold onto as I go deeper?
The King of Cups is a card of emotional mastery, compassion, and soulful living. This card promises that as I go deeper within, I will mature into a state of emotional balance and spiritual wisdom. The King of Cups reassures me that my dedication will lead to a deeper connection with my heart and the divine. I am being guided to embody love, empathy, and inner peace, trusting that my spiritual journey will ultimately lead me to a place of profound emotional and spiritual fulfilment.
Summary of the Reading
This reading shows a journey from distraction (King of Pentacles) to soulful connection (King of Cups). Four masculine Court Cards (two Kings, two Knights) highlight the need for active, disciplined energy. My path requires dedication (Knight of Pentacles), truth-seeking (Knight of Swords), structure (The Emperor), and compassion (King of Cups).
The Knight of Pentacles calls for steady effort. The Knight of Swords urges clarity and truth. The Emperor reminds me to build a strong spiritual foundation. The King of Cups promises emotional and spiritual maturity.
The 6 of Cups warns against clinging to the past. The 5 of Swords invites surrender and peace. Together, these cards guide me to release distractions, embrace discipline, and trust devotion.
Final Thoughts
This reading balances action with compassion, truth with love, and structure with soulful living. Embodying these energies deepens my divine connection and leads to a mature, integrated spiritual path. Could I have come to this same conclusion about devotion and dedication without using the Tarot? Maybe but it would have taken a lot longer and I probably wouldn’t feel as clear about it. I’m surprised and delighted by the strong focus on the Divine Masculine in this reading but it makes a lot of sense. What so many of us lack now is structure. This is truly a gift we can give ourselves in these times of rapid transformation.
