8 of Cups Waning Moon Tarot Spread for Release

The Waning Moon Release Tarot Spread

The Moon is waning and in a few days, we have a New Moon. The waning moon can be seen in the RWS 8 of Cups (Saturn in Pisces), with a man dressed in red (for following his passion) walking away from eight cups, presumably filled with stagnant, tasteless liquid.

The 8 of Cups is a card of releasing whatever holds you back, whether it be poor circumstances, abusive relationships, or your own negative attitude… Whatever you are clinging to, even if it is your own reputation, is palpably creating stagnant, stuck energy… These are times when the 8 of Cups shows up… These are the days of the waning moon, when the wind through the forest whispers release, release, release… ease, ease, ease…

It’s the 8 of Cups that inspired the Waning Moon Release Tarot Spread below.

Simple Release Ritual

On the Waning Moon, get a black candle out and place the 8 of Cups card below it. Meditate for a while on where your passion is leading you and what it is leading you away from. Write the things you are ready to let go of down on a piece of paper and burn the paper in a fireproof container. A stainless steel pot or the kitchen sink works well, I find – unless you decide you need an A1 size paper for all the stuff you’re ready to walk away from, in which case I suggest you burn it in a fireplace or a large cauldron in the middle of a dark forest-

What will you release? What are you hoping to make room for? Bear in mind that you are making room for another new beginning. It’s worth bearing in mind what you want that new beginning to bring. That way can release the things that clutter your life up and hold you back with power and intention.

“See if you can catch yourself complaining, in either speech or thought, about a situation you find yourself in, what other people do or say, your surroundings, your life situation, even the weather. To complain is always nonacceptance of what is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain, you make yourself into a victim. When you speak out, you are in your power. So change the situation by taking action or by speaking out if necessary or possible; leave the situation or accept it. All else is madness.”
― Eckhart Tolle
