The High Priestess is the esoteric equivalent of the exoteric Hierophant or Pope/High Priest. The Wyld Godde High Priestess invites us to explore the mystery of faith by playing with symbols and even finding our own symbolic language to help us connect with Spirit. It’s okay to not buy the ready-made symbolism presented by The Hierophant. That’s just the starter pack, anyway. It’s the alphabet we all have to learn. The High Priestess teaches us to turn those letters into poetry.
The High Priestess and RTS Recovery
On a personal note, I feel this archetype is super important when recovering from RTS. She represents our soul’s connection with the mystery. And maybe for the first time, I understand the secrecy aspected associated with The High Priestess. Our ego shuts us down to truths we can’t handle when our soul is fragmented by trauma. These truths are only revealed at the pace our soul fragments are reintegrated.
I’m the first to hold my hand up and admit that I could not clearly see Godde’s love as unconditional until today. It has been a gradual (and, some might argue, awkward) unveiling. This morning I finally surrendered to this truth. And my Godde, I couldn’t stop crying! This is the book by Brennan Manning that facilitated this morning’s very real breakthrough.
Born Whole
This shutting down due to soul fragments splitting off is why we prefer exoteric religion until we are ready. So why does The High Priestess appear before The Hierophant? Could it be because none of us is born fragmented? Perhaps our souls are whole and connected at birth. The fact that children see the spirit world with greater ease seems to testify to this. Isn’t this why Jesus told his followers that they had to become like little children to get what he was trying to teach them?
