The child in the Wyld Godde Tarot Sun card knows subtlety. In fact, all children do. All children know how to play fantasy games and they know that fantasy and reality can merge but they are aware of their imaginings. They know what springs forth from their mind and what doesn’t. And when things from the outside enter their realm of perception they remain open. They do not need to label those things because there is no subconscious programming that demands that.
Later, when there is wounding, the inner wounded child, the other child in the Marseille Tarot version of The Sun starts demanding categories for the things that present themselves in the field of perception. It does this to stay safe from harm.
The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
The wounded child has been fed the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. This is the meaning of ‘original sin.’ I no longer believe that we are born in a fallen state. I believe that we become tainted by an ancient evil that lives in this realm. It instils fear in us and it feeds on that fear.
And I believe our spirit chooses to come here to experience what it is like to live in an environment that isn’t safe. It’s all part of the great adventure that the aptly named Fool has signed up for. But the Fool knows what we all forget as soon as we are fed that first morsel of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, and that is that everything is happening for us and everything will be well in the end.
Outside space-time, everything is well and we can always connect with that well-being through the heart which carries the intelligence of our spirit or inner solar child, the Christ within.
The Light of Reason
The Sun reminds us that the light of reason is the cosmic sorting hat. The light of reason creates duality. But the duality exists for one reason only in terms of our evolutionary path. It is there to be transcended. That is not to say that we will merge with the darkness to never see light again. It is that we emerge awakened and with both light and shadow integrated. From this new point of view, there is no need to judge or label.
If we are still judging and labelling, we are living from the ego. That is necessary from time to time in this dimension but if we identify with that inner judge, we are still one with the wounded child and suppressing the more subtle spirit child within. It is the latter that must be reborn.

When the inner solar child and the lunar child of the wounded self are reunited, we have full access to both the conscious and the subconscious realms.
