holistic rune meanings and correspondences for the kenaz rune

Kenaz – Rune of Divine Inspiration

Kenaz combines the quiet knowing and inner wisdom of the High Priestess with the confidence to act on it found in the Tarot Sun card.  When this rune shows up, we are ready to become the soul alchemists of the Temperance card and share our vision with the world.

Stripped back meaning based on the actual word and shape

The root ‘ken’ meaning torch is found in words like ‘cunning’ and ‘kenning’ – more surprisingly, perhaps, also in the word ‘cunt’ and no I’m not trying to be rude – It’s just a word geek fact too interesting not to share.

In ancient Norse poetry, a kenning is a word or phrase that alludes to something else and demands of the reader that they have knowledge of myth and lore to understand what is being said. An example would be alluding to Freya’s tears as ‘the rain from her brow’ – Sometimes, it’s a kenning that demands a double take because (as everybody knows) Freya’s tears are gold.

To be divinely inspired then, is to be deeply connected to universal consciousness as well as ancestral cultural heritage, enabling us to create a vision that inspires others and helps them feel as if they belong. True artistry.

When we fail to harness the divine fire through either ignorance (HP reversed) or arrogance (Sun reversed), we create dis-ease in our body. We get burned by that same fire that has the power to heal.

The shape of this rune is like a mouth or torch, facing the future (reversed, it’s facing the past). It also looks than a ‘more than’ sign and reminds us that with God we are more than capable of handling whatever life throws at us.

Use with Gebo and Wunjo to draw the Right One to you in love spells.

Draw the Kenaz rune on your palms before channelling divine healing energy and to allow for intuitive guidance about where to place your hands.

Affirmations

  • I allow myself to be filled with divine inspiration now.
  • I am a mouthpiece for the divine.
  • I am inspired and inspire others in return.
  • I enjoy teaching and sharing my wisdom.
  • My life is balance and in harmony between forces of yin and yang.
