Self-Baptism Ritual Template for Christian Witches (FREE Download)

christian witch self-baptism

Until I read Mary Magdalene Revealed, I didn’t know that self-baptism was a thing. Apparently, Thecla set a precedent in the first century CE after Paul refused to baptise her. I also recently learned about the four baptisms practised by some Gnostic Christians and was thrilled to learn about this since I have been baptised three times already.

My first baptism was a traditional Swedish State Church infant christening. It was entirely without my consent. The second baptism was as a 17-year-old Evangelical Christian convert. This was my way of rebelling as a teenager.

Between my second and third baptism, I converted to the Catholic faith and received the sacrament of confirmation. It was a powerful and magical transmission of Holy Spirit power and yet what I was searching for was not found within the church of Rome. After experiencing emotional abuse by an Opus Dei Priest during confession, I decided to leave. There was quite a lot of religious trauma to unravel after both my Evangelical and Catholic church experiences.

The Cross and the Pentacle

Before my third baptism, after leaving organised religion, I found witchcraft and made it part of my practice. Yet something was still missing. At that time I was unaware of the religious trauma lurking in the shadows. I also had cognitive dissonance about my blended beliefs. This all came to a head during the first lockdown in 2020 and I ended up renouncing my witchcraft to once again get baptised in an Evangelical setting.

Baptism by Fire

Since I was unable to make the pieces of the jigsaw fit at that time, I chose to lean into religious dogma as a safeguard against confusion. It didn’t last. It couldn’t. And that’s how I eventually realised I had religious trauma to process.

Four years later, the idea of and desire for a fourth baptism, a self-baptism starts to blossom within my heart and soul. Not long after that I learn about the four baptisms and Thecla’s self-baptism. Coincidence? I think not!

Self-Baptism Ritual Template for Christian Witches

Few Christian Witches (aka Sophianic Witches or ChristoSophianic Witches) have a real life coven or community. I created this ritual template in time for the 2024 Magdalene Feast Day on 22 July. Feel free to replace any of the wording. This may be your first or 17th baptism and your objectives may differ from mine so make the ritual fit your intentions.

Opening

Welcome the Elements and Guardian Angels of the Four Quarters. State your intent to baptise yourself.

  • Make the sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost; In the name of the Mother/Mother Mary, Daughter/Mary Magdalene and Holy Sophia (touching your heart, lips and third eye respectively for the divine feminine aspects)
  • Our Father
  • Salve Regina or hymn of choice

Testimony

Example: “This is the path I was always on but I lost my way by looking without instead of going within. I now reclaim my true path and calling. This is my Baptism of Light.”

Renunciation and Affirmation/Confirmation

  • I renounce my arrogance, ignorance and willfulness.
  • I surrender to that still small voice within.
  • I commit to my Path as a Magdalene Rose Priestess and Sophianic Christian Witch in service to the Good.

Name Dedication

I take for myself the name (_________) as a sign of my dedication to Christ within on this path.

Preparation and Blessing of Water

Step into the water and raise your hands in the air.

Invocation: ‘Come Holy Spirit, Come Holy Spirit, Come Holy Spirit.’

Immersion

With your hands crossed over your heart make your statement of intent: “This is my holy self-baptism. I, (_________), baptise myself in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I baptise myself in the name of the Mother, the Daughter and Holy Sophia.”

Immerse yourself fully.

Smile!

Anointing

After coming out of the water and drying yourself off, anoint yourself with holy oil over the heart, lips and forehead: “I am a priestess in the lineage of Yeshua and Mary Magdalene.”

Reading

I am the first and the last. I am the honoured one and the scorned one. I am the whore and the holy one. I am the wife and the virgin. I am the mother and the daughter.

Thunder, Perfect Mind

Closing Prayer

Give thanks and bid the Elements the four Archangels farewell. Close with the Psalm below or your favourite prayer.

1. Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
2. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
5. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
6. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Psalm 150 KJV

Comments

  1. This is an excellent idea. I’ve been wanting to be baptized for a while now but can’t find the correct outlet ( for me) to do so.
I will conduct this ritual tonight on the feast of Mary Magdalene.

It’s so hard to find others who believe in both magic and Christianity.

    Thank you for this post/article.
