Get to Know Your Dragon Guide Tarot Spread

Do you like dragons? If you are a practitioner of magick, chances are that you have an affinity with dragons. Chances are also that you have your very own Dragon Guide. The fact that dragons exist in the myth and lore of all cultures around the world is enough to make you realise that they are real even if most people can’t see them these days.

“I desired dragons with a profound desire.”
C.S. Lewis

Have you perhaps had the (rather terrifying) pleasure of meeting a dragon already? I met one shortly after an attunement to dragon Reiki, many years ago. She was bent over my bed one night as I woke up. I found myself completely hypnotised by her gaze.

“But it is one thing to read about dragons and another to meet them.”
Ursula K. Le Guin

She gave me her name too – a name that is for me to keep so I won’t be passing it on here. I suggest keeping the name of your dragon ally secret too… at least until you have permission to share it… Remember, “Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!”

“True Dragons are among the Universe’s most perfect beings. This is a useful bit of information. Squirrel it away like a nugget of Fafnir‘s gold; take it out and burnish it now and then as we proceed.”
― Shawn MacKenzie

Your Dragon Guide is Your Perfect Ally

Dragons make the perfect allies in magick. If you are drawn to the magick and dragons, you almost certainly have a dragon guide. This would be the perfect Tarot spread for you to use to find out a little bit more about your ally. I chose to work with the Tarot Draconis for this reading – a dragon themed deck is ideal but not necessary.

1. Who are you? Gives you an idea of who your dragon is – his/her temperament and possibly gender (indicated by the figure on the card).

2. How can you help me? Shows you how your dragon ally may assist you in your magickal workings.

3. What do you expect from me? This card indicates what your dragon ally expects from you in return (other than pretty, shiny things).

Psssst! If you enjoy this post, you’ll probably enjoy the deck interview I did a while back with the Tarot Draconis!

SAMPLE READING

1. Who are you? The World (Saturn) I’m old enough to have seen new universes be born. I am wise enough to have transcended and playful enough to choose to return. I bring constant renewal and new challenges. Sometimes, I may impose limitations where necessary but only so that harmony may reign. I am no foreigner to chaos and that is why I prefer structure and… choreography. Let me be your guide to the most beautiful dance of life. I am the ultimate Dancer of Life.

2. How can you help me? 2 of Swords (Moon in Libra) I help you detach and choose the most harmonious option. You’ve done rough in the past. It’s time for some smooth… something you clearly need help with.

3. What do you expect from me in return? The Emperor (Aries) That you harness your fire, just like I do mine and use it wisely, with discernment so that structure and order can reign for the greater good of All.

  3. Interesting! I got Ace of Cups, Chariot, and Knight of Wands. I guess my dragon is telling me I've got to at least make a move and he'll give me a strong push to help me along–but only once I've taken the initiative myself.
