Feeling into the 6 of Cups

The 6 of Cups is traditionally a card of nostalgia and often foretells of the Seeker being reunited with someone from their past. Reminiscing and dreaming of being reunited with someone from the can be a wonderful thing. But being lost in memories about the past and wishing for those times to return could also prevent us from living fully in the now.

“The Greek word for “return” is nostos. Algos means “suffering.” So nostalgia is the suffering caused by an unappeased yearning to return.”
~ Milan Kundera, Ignorance

This is why I often see this card as an indication of a need to cut cords with a person from one’s past. Also, sometimes, it indicates a need to cut ties with the power of the memory itself. It could mean it is time to make a declaration of intent to move on and to consciously choose to redirect one’s focus more to the present, as well as to make plans for the future.

Sun in Scorpio

In terms of Astrology, this is the Sun in Scorpio (Fixed Water). As we know, the ego-personality (Sun) often finds it difficult to let go of memories of an intensely emotional nature (Scorpio). This card’s energy often surfaces during Venus retrograde (which we happen to be in at the time of writing this). Whatever we choose to do with this energy often has a lasting impact. So be careful to choose a direction which makes it possible to keep growing and moving forward, lest you find yourself stuck in the murky waters of Scorpio.

Affirmation: “I choose to remain open to the possibility that the best is yet to come.”

6 of Cups Prayer

Dear Mother-Father God, thank you for the gift of deeply emotional memories. May only those memories that bring me joy and inspiration linger. Help me release any memories that fill me with regret. Amen and so it is!

The 6 of Cups in Love and Relationship Tarot Readings

The 6 of Cups is the soul mate card in the deck since it signifies an emotional bond that survives death. You can read about the significance of this card in soul mate readings and in combination with other cards HERE.

It’s usually a sign of emotional intimacy in the relationship. If it shows up reversed, it could be a sign that you are hankering after a past love. Ill-dignified it could be a sign that you two are star-crossed lovers. Look for any of the karmic Major Arcana cards to tell you more.

Meeting My French Past Life Husband Online

I’m going to share a personal story here which I do not normally do. However, it so perfectly illustrates the kinds of soul mate connections that can pop up romantically under the influence of the 6 of Cups.

This happened about a decade ago when I was single and looking. I spotted the picture of a man on a dating site and messaged him with, ‘I know you from a past life.’ He came back with ‘Yes, that’s right. We know each other.’ This could easily get weird, I thought to myself so I decided to stop chatting with him and instead do dream incubation about the past life we shared (I only picked up on one).

In the dream, I saw myself living in a large, old stone house in the south of France in the 1920s. I was quite short, with curly auburn hair and generous curves. My husband was obsessed with my shape but he was away a lot. I saw him wearing a leather jacket which I thought was odd since he was a gentleman.

The next morning, I simply told him that I’d had a dream that we were married in a past life. I provided no details. This is what he came back with:

“That’s right. We were living in France in the 1920s. I was one of the early pilots. I died in an aeroplane crash.”

Did we see each other, fall madly back in love and get married? No. I was still angry that he ‘abandoned’ me in that life and refused to even see him for a coffee.

Single and looking

To a single person, it could indicate that they long for and/or are about to meet a soul mate (we have more than one). Surrounding cards will tell you more.

Intimacy

The 6 of Cups brings the qualities of ecstasy and intoxication to the bedroom. Be careful if this card shows up when you’re just looking for a temporary divertissement. You could get hooked!

  1. I lost someone recently and the grieving process for a soul mate is unimaginable. When we first met it was unforgettable Moving forward, would you believe that moment was repeated again four years later, but from a birds eye view and it was my opportunity to learn and make better choices than before. I have an opportunity for new beginnings and I am learning more about myself and growing everyday.

The changes I have made with myself have caused a loss of people within my circle, but for the better. I’m not the same person as I was before and I continue to move forward.

So sorry for your loss, Vanessa. Losing people from our lives is often the way it is when we change a lot. Many people prefer the status quo. Well done for continuing to move forward.
