The Benefits and Methods of Daily Tarot Pulls

daily card pulls

One of the things I love the most about the Tarot is that you don’t have to know all the card meanings to start doing deeply meaningful daily Tarot pulls. In fact, starting a daily Tarot practice is a great way to learn Tarot in the first instance! If you read my article, The Quickest Way to Learn Tarot (or listen to the podcast version), you will understand why. As for the benefits of having a Tarot practice in general, check out The 12 Benefits of Having a Tarot Practice.

Five Benefits of Daily Tarot Pulls

1. Self-Reflection

A daily tarot pull offers a moment of introspection. Instead of starting the day bombarded with the negativity, we so often see when we scroll on our phones, we can take a moment to check in with our souls. It allows us to pause and examine our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Being connected within empowers us to decide how we want to feel during the rest of day, rather than instantly entering into a state of reactivity.

2. Setting Intentions

By focusing on a single card each day, you can set clear intentions for your day and align your actions with your goals. Allow your intuition to guide you to whether the card is a good fit with how you currently feel or if it represents an action that will help you move closer to your goals.

3. Emotional Insight

Whatever your card of the day represents to you, pay attention to how you feel about it. This level of emotional insight is what can help you get unstuck, especially if you have a tendency to self-sabotage. The key is to accept whatever comes up without judgment. From that serene place of non-judgment, you become free to choose the direction that is the most helpful to you.

4. Enhances Intuition

Pulling a card a day and spending some time in self-reflection will strengthen your intuitive abilities. This can, in turn, lead to better decision-making and personal growth. The effect is akin to keeping a dream journal because the language–symbols and archetypes–is the same.

5. Mindfulness Practice

The act of pulling a card can be a mindfulness practice, grounding you in the present moment and reducing stress. This practice includes the whole ritual around your daily card pull, as long as you perform each element mindfully. For instance, when you shuffle take some deep, relaxing breaths and focus on the sensation of the cards in your hands. Finally, closing the session mindfully and with thanksgiving can be especially grounding and centring.

Methods of Daily Tarot Pulls

Create a Quiet Space

Find a calm and quiet setting where you won’t be disturbed. This helps to clear your mind and allows you to focus. To make sure your mind remains calm and focused, make sure to keep your practice right at the start of the day, before you start scrolling. Ideally, keep your practice in your meditation space. This is especially helpful if you intend to also use your daily pull for spirit communication.

Set an Intention

Before pulling a card, take a moment to set an intention or ask a specific question. This can be related to your goals, emotions, or a situation you’re facing. One of my favourite ways to set an intention, if I’m drawing a blank is to either do bibliomancy or pull an oracle card to hone in on the most productive intention to set. This allows a question to form that the Tarot card can answer and it makes the daily Tarot pull more dynamic.

Shuffle the Deck

Shuffle your tarot deck while keeping your intention or question in mind. You can whisper your question or intention as you shuffle. This connects your energy to the cards. You will feel an internal click when you have shuffled enough. Then cut the deck in three with your non-dominant hand and restack the cards.

Pull a Card

Draw a single card from the deck, either from the top or after fanning the cards on the table before you. Take note of the imagery, symbolism, and initial impressions. You need to decide beforehand if you are going to use reversed card meanings or not but if you are an absolute beginner and are trying to receive an intuitive message, you can safely leave reversals out. I almost never use them myself and you can read about why HERE.

Once you feel you know your cards, you may wish to start experimenting with a two-card daily pull.

Reflect on the Message

Consider how the card’s message relates to your intention or question. Spend some time looking at the imagery to see if you gain additional insights or to simply notice what jumps out at you. Something that jumps out at you but doesn’t make sense immediately, typically makes sense later on in the day. Journaling your thoughts can be helpful in discerning deeper meaning. It is also helpful to keep a journal of your daily tarot pulls if you wish to learn how to read the Tarot. By keeping a journal, you gradually build your internal library of meanings.

Apply the Insights

Use the guidance from the tarot card to influence your actions, thoughts, and decisions throughout the day. In some ways, this is the most important part of your daily pull. If you never act on the guidance you receive, you can easily start experiencing guidance overwhelm.

Guidance overwhelm occurs when we receive intuitive messages and keep asking for more and more messages instead of taking action. This can result in feeling paralysed by choices, second-guessing our decisions, and struggling to align actions with insights. To manage guidance overwhelm, it’s crucial to prioritise actionable steps and integrate them gradually into daily life, ensuring a balanced approach that prevents burnout and enhances personal growth.

Evening Reflection

At the end of the day, reflect on how the card’s message manifested in your daily experiences. Did you learn anything new and unexpected about this card’s energy? Write about how it showed up in the form of events, resources, energy, symbols and other people. This can deepen your understanding and enhance your self-awareness.

Daily tarot card pulls can be a powerful tool for personal development, offering clarity, direction, and introspection. By incorporating this practice into your daily routine, you can cultivate a greater sense of purpose and mindfulness.
